52 1/2 weeks of 2009

*The End*
52 cards in a deck
52 white keys on a piano
52 Pick-Up
52 weeks in a year
52 photos in 2009
52... count em'

It was fun. It is done. Now I'll start another one.

This was a fun project for me. As you know, photography is a big hobby of mine. Without this project I would have probably let my camera gather dust. Instead, it has let me be creative. It's been an outlet for the stress I've been facing. I'm happy that I did it. I will be starting another one in 2010.
A huge THANK YOU!! to all that have read my blog and followed me on this journey. Thank you for your wonderful comments. I can't tell you how they've put smiles on my face during times I really haven't felt like smiling.

I can't believe that this year is over. If I sit back and reflect on 2009 I try to pull out some good points. All in all this has NOT been a good year. I won't put each of those points here because, honestly, why ponder on the bad things?
I can say that it was a good year because I got to travel for work. I was honored that I was picked to help my company in a merger process. I was thrilled to travel to Seattle, a place I've never been to. I absolutely loved it there and would be happy to go back.
It was a good year because David passed his freshman year with flying colors. He was one of three kids from his school chosen to go to Australia for a student ambassador program. Unfortunately, due to our finances he could not go. That's OK. David also got a varsity letter in track and in academics.
Emily finished out her middle school year with flying colors also. She was part of the school band, track and the volleyball team. She was a big help this summer for a coworker and babysat for her little boy. She made good money and had a great time as well. She started her freshman year a bit bumpy but things have smoothed out. She's on her way to a great year.
Mike and I have made it to our 16th year of marriage. We have withstood all the misconceptions that society likes to place on young couples. We will make it through all that life throws at us.

So on to a new year. This is going to be a life changing year for us. I pray everyday for God to help us through this next step in our lives. I pray God will show us mercy in 2010. I pray, just pray.

“Over the hills we go, screaming all the way!”
So I guess I’m using this for my 52nd photo. It was Christmas Day and we were on our way to Christmas Dinner. We all got new phones for Christmas and I was playing around with mine.
With the stress of the holidays & work and being sick I didn’t put much into this like I planned. The flickr group I’m in is 52 1/2 weeks of 2009. Not really sure what the deal is with the “1/2″ but I have the “1/2″ photo to do for the last one. I do have an idea in mind so hopefully all will go as planned.

**disclaimer
I’d like to add that no one got hurt in the making of this photo. The kids in the backseat are fine.

Waiting for the Big Man*
A day late posting this. I did take the photo on time, however.
This is my take on the theme product shot. It could go two ways... a shot of Peppermint Schnapps in some hot cocoa. Or just a shot of a cute holiday mug. I'm thinking the latter. I don't really do alcohol.
This weekend was the Murphy family Christmas party. It went well, no fights. lol! I enjoyed the time spent with Mike's family. My great nephew Sam is just so cute. He's about 18 months old and so fun. He's such a good natured little guy.
I've got some gifts bought but need to finish up this week. I'm not sure when I'm going to get out. Good thing for the 24 hour stores.

Helping Hands*
Finally put the tree up today. I wanted to go for a real tree but decided to stick with my pre-lit tree. Sidney decided to help. The kids really didn't want any part of it. I have to get the ornaments put on it still. Why does this seem like more of a chore than ever this year?

Tis the season to be Jolly

49/52 ruby*, originally uploaded by Jen likes to snap pics*.

The theme this week is bokeh. Bokeh is an adaptation from a a Japanese word meaning blur. In photography this term is used to describe the quality of the areas in the picture which are not in focus.
This is one of my favorite things to do... shoot bokeh. I love the swirly, out of focus lights.
Today I went to the park to walk around. It was sunny, but cool. I took my camera, hoping to find something to shoot for my photo for this week. Everything was dead. lol Lots of brown, dead leaves. These red berries were scattered here and there to add a splash of color.
To see some more of my bokeh photos, you can take a looke here.

48/52

The theme for this week is "then & now". Back "then" I used my dad's Minolta 35mm camera. I had the film developed and now they are stored in photoboxes or albums. "Now" I'm using my digital camera and all the photos are on these little SD cards. It's not so easy sitting down and going through albums when your photos are on the computer or on little cards. I really should have more images printed. I have a few years worth of digital images stored on them.

47/52

The theme this week is "From the decade you were born". This is a gift my mom was given when she had me. It says "Mother is another word for Love ~ Mother's Day 1973" It was her first Mother's Day and the day she gave birth to me. I have this in my China cabinet along with a few other collectibles.

46/52

"Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get."
The theme this week is inspired by your favorite movie quotes. This quote holds true for me this week.
It started out normal. I never expected it to end up the way it did.

details- to be recognized
So this week's theme was as the title says. I didn't come up with anything creative. While I was outside today I saw this really pretty leaf. It was not transparant as it appears here. I held it up to the warm sunshine and you could see all the veins running through it. I figured I'd take this for my photo of the week.
Boy, it was a beautiful warm weekend. I wish they were all this nice.

44/52

color me autumn*
The theme this week is color. I love the colors of autumn. I love this season that brings the cool weather and changing leaves. I love the smells of cider and pumpkin and baking.
I can't believe it's November 1. This year has flown right by.

43/52 bored*, originally uploaded by Jen likes to snap pics*.

Bored
The theme for the week is sepia.
And the title says it all. It was a boring day. Didn't do much at all. Last night we went to my cousin's wedding. It was a beautiful wedding. She looked gorgeous! We had a great time. I forgot my camera. pooey!
This is our dog Simon. He came to us when he was a wee pup. He was probably 12 weeks old or so when we got him. He's 10 now. He's just a playful as the day we got him. One of the cutest things I remember him doing when he was a puppy was sleeping in my daughters dollhouse. He was that small!

I took this of Sidney. She didn't want to participate.

42/52 street*, originally uploaded by Jen likes to snap pics*.

My street, tonight.
This really isn't what I had in mind, as usual. It's late too.
My back is killing me (not looking for sympathy) and it kept me from doing what I planned. I still may do it for an upcoming week. I almost cheated and used a photo that I posted earlier in the week, however it was taken a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad I didn't.

Old vs New
This is my take on the theme Old vs New. This is an old grandfather clock but it is new for me. I just acquired it yesterday. My Great Uncle made this long ago for his sister, my Grandma. My Uncle, Grandma's son, had it at his empty rental house. His son didn't want it anymore. It's been passed around a bit.
I'm so glad to have gotten this clock. It's a cherished family heirloom. I love the sound it makes. It takes me back to times spent with my Grandma & Grandpa at their house. Both have passed on and to have this part of them means so much that I can't even describe.

40/52 music*, originally uploaded by Jen likes to snap pics*.

The theme is music this week.
I do not play any instruments. The only thing I can play is the radio.
The kids on the other hand do. My son started playing the flute for his school band in 6th grade. He then moved up to the oboe. He got a guitar one year for Christmas and taught himself to play it. He was in a band at one time and played in our city's Battle of the Bands for teens. He's looking for someone to play with now.
My daughter is currently playing the flute. She too, started playing in 6th grade. She's still playing and is part of the High School's Pep band and will play for the basketball team. This Dean Bass is her's. She bought it with hopes to play it.

I do not know why I feel the need to photograph my butt. If I think about it I wonder why I continue to do this sp project. It's silly. My kids think I'm crazy! They wanted to know what I was doing when I was "hiding" in the living room with the furniture pushed aside. lol I think they are right sometimes.

39/52 circles, originally uploaded by Jen likes to snap pics*.

We've got circles! So yeah, the theme is circles this week. If you are in search for something it jumps out at you. I couldn't believe how many circles I saw today when I went out. This was taken at the Little League park where the Junior League World Series is held in Taylor. It's played each year here and boys from all over the world come to play.

Something Old
The theme this week is something old. This watch is old. (I can't believe I can get it on.) I was probably 7 when I got this. I don't know for sure. I loved Strawberry Shortcake! I loved the way she smelled. I loved brushing her hair. I had all of her friends too.

37/52 nine, originally uploaded by Jen likes to snap pics*.

The theme this week is "nine" in reference of 9/9/09.
Trying to come up with something for this week's theme was tough. I didn't put much thought into it. It was fun setting this up. =}
It all started with the facebook version of Scrabble. I like playing it on facebook. Emily wanted to get the game so we did. The kids and I like playing it.

It's not Monday, it's Wednesday

It feels like a Monday. It's back to work today... left my purse in my hubby's car... he's at work. I'm on "E". It's a good thing, I have a ten set aside for school lunches because normally I'd use my check card. I also have all my work keys in my purse. Oh this is going to be a fun day. I just hope I don't get pulled over on my way to work.

Labor Day Weekend

There has never been a day when I have not been proud of you, I said to my son, though some days I'm louder about other stuff so it's easy to miss that. ~story people

~*~*~*~
Yesterday the kids and I drove to the boat club in Monroe, where my parents boat is. We went out for a little bit and Emily jumped in and out of Lake Erie. The water was cold, I think.
We are going to go back today. This time, we'll take the tube out. My cousin might come and bring her kayak.
Oh and David drove there and back on I-75. He did pretty good. I'm going to let him drive again today. He needs the hours.

36/52

The theme this week is macro photography. Macro photography is close-up photography. I took this macro of a watercolor that Emily painted. It's on a canvas and I thought the texture was interesting.

Emily Wonka

Emily Wonka

Today the kids and I went to get shoes for school. Guitar Center was in the same shopping center and David wanted to go. Emily went to Party City instead. They were getting their Halloween costumes out and Emily found this wonderful purple velet hat and some crazy glasses. I just had to take this picture! She actually let me too.

Waiting for the Harvest.

I had a hard time coming up with something for the theme (waiting) this week. I went out to one of our city's parks for the heck of it today. I wanted to take some photos. There is a community garden there. People plant things and then their crops go to local food banks. Pretty cool thing to do.
I was waiting to see a Cabbage Patch Kid. lol

“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”
_____**_____

I was in search of architectural details while at Henry Ford's Estate. There are plenty to be found.

...

I went out to Henry Ford's Estate today. I needed to get out of the house. I really like this place. It's so peaceful.
Oh and I should add that it just started misting. It was a light drizzle and my daughter kept yelling at me to get the camera back in the bag! She was concerned.

33/52 heat, originally uploaded by Jen likes to snap pics*.

This week's theme is heat. Chillin' in the pool is one of my favorite ways to stay cool in this heat. This weekend is going to be a hot one. You'll be sure to find me floating around in the pool.

32/52 is it a sign?, originally uploaded by Just another Jen *.

Is it a sign?
The theme this week is "signs". I'm hoping this little piece of paper is a sign for us. We could use a little happiness this last part of the year. It's been a sucky 2009. I just can't imagine it getting any worse than it has been.

Sunday, August 2, 2009

31/52

The theme this week is to take a photo of something that never occurred to you to take a picture of before. This was very hard. I've either taken it or have at least thought of it. Tonight, while folding my laundry it hit me. I'll take a picture of the ceiling! This part of the basement is unfinished. It looks pretty cool, I guess. To add some bit of interest I got these wires. I have no idea what they are. I'm sure they are important for something.

Tomorrow starts another week of work. I'll be working my 3rd week in a row of 6 days. It's tiring. I'm thankful for my Sundays.
It's our anniversary Friday too. Not sure what the plans are. I'll have to put on my thinking cap.

30/52

Ok... so the theme for the week is water. I don't know why but I wasn't inspired to do this week. I had an idea but it didn't work the way I wanted. Oh and it's just not HOT enough to get in the pool, besides, I'm not about to be seen in a swimsuit. I should have gotten in the hot-tub. Oh, too late.
I took the kids to the movie at 7:30 and on the way home I was thinking about what I could do. I was also thinking that I needed to vaccum the car. *ding *ding *ding *ding I'll wash the car! Wait, again, I'm not about to get in a bathing suit. So here's the "un-sexiest" carwash photoshoot.

Brazilian Stew
I found a recipe on another blog that I follow. I made it for a late lunch / early dinner today. I just finished a bowl and I have to say, it was delicious! The mango added a special touch. The kids ate it with no groans. Emily didn't care for the sweet potatoes. I think she's crazy.
Go check out the b-line for the recipe.

banana split!

A few weeks ago, my parents took the kids to the Jackson Dairy. Here is David with the banana split that he ordered. Look at the size of that. He ate it all!!
Oh, and that's my dad. :-)

It makes me laugh each time I visit my mother-in-law. This is how all the mirrors are in the house. If you are taller than 5'5" you won't see your face in the mirrors unless you bend down.
We had a nice visit with Mike's mom. The weather was cold, cloudy and rainy. We had planned on tubing down the river but that didn't work out. Will make up back up there this summer, hopefully it's hot!

29/52 chore, originally uploaded by Jen likes to snap pics*.

Well, here I am once again posting these crazy photos. The theme this week is "fruits / veggies". As you can see this has nothing to do with the theme. (I don't know if I'll have the chance to do a photo for the theme.) I was actually vacuuming the pool. I took this on Monday for "Bench Monday". And no, this is not a bench. It's my Home Depot bucket. These really come in handy. Sidney was right under foot as usual. And this time, quite literally. It's like she knew she was going to have her picture taken too.
Well, enough rambling. Have a great week!

emily, originally uploaded by Jen likes to snap pics*.

We went to Trenton's Elizabeth Park today. They were having Kayak demos and Emily wanted to check it out. We got there a little to late and they were wrapping up but they were going to be starting a tour soon. We declined although it would have been fun. The kayaks they were selling were over $1k. Just a bit over our price range.
I brought my camera and wanted to practice taking pics of *people* but Emily didn't want anything to do with it. Somehow I managed to get 3 decent ones of her. David was off at the skate park so I didn't get any of him.

27/52 chaos, originally uploaded by Jen likes to snap pics*.

The theme for the week is chaos.
Need I say more? Between Emily and I my counter is alway full. I like things within reach. I can't find anything when it's put away. By the way... I actually cleaned the counter yesterday. I staged this. ha ha! There would have been more things here such as deodarant, the flat iron. And this is only have of it.

26/52 half eaten, originally uploaded by Jen likes to snap pics*.

The theme this week is half. We are halfway through 2009. I feel like I just started this project. It's been fun so far.

Yesterday morning, the kids and I drove out to Cabella's in Dundee. I let David drive there and back. He did pretty good. After we left Cabella's with what we went there for, we took a drive through the town. Either I didn't find the downtown area or it was very, very small. We did see a garage sale on one of the streets. The guy had 2 electric guitars for sale. So we parked and went to check them out. The one was just like one David has his eye on at Guitar Center. It's a Les Paul. The guy was selling them for $10. They were really banged up but David didn't care. He got the one he wanted. When we got home he fixed it up. He got new knobs and some other little piece. He spent a total of $16.78 for a new toy that could have cost him over $100. He's so happy!

This week, the theme is pet peeves. I can't stand mail! It stacks up and makes a huge mess. This is nothing compared to what it could be. I just can't seem to get rid of it.

Last night David and his friend were the "opening act" for a band that played at the boat club that my parents belong to. They were going to be in the talent show but it was canceled. David was disappointed. After a bit the commador decided they could open for the band. They only played 2 songs, thankfully. They didn't get to do a sound check and you could tell. They were happy they were able to play, that's what counts.

Midnight Snack...because the icecream bar just isn't enough.
The theme for the week is light and shadow... I'm not sure if this really counts. I know there is light... but is there really shadodw?
Either way, this was a fun and tasty shot.

The theme this week is emotion. I would definitely be embarrassed if this happened to me! Thankfully, I can say that it has not.

The Space Needle at Night
The theme for week 22 is "night". I took this last week and am late uploading it. I ended up going up the Space Needle. I went later, during the day, though. It was a spectacular view.

Seattle is a beautiful city. I'm ready to pack up and move there.
This was taken from a park in the quaint neighborhood called Queen Anne. The homes were so cute.
The weather was perfect while I was there. It never rained once.
Work was a little slow. I'm glad I'm back. I missed my family so much. I wish they could have been there with me to experience it all with me.
