memories*

Does a certain smell trigger memories for you? It does me. Original scent Palmolive reminds me of my Grandpa. He used to do the dishes all the time. He was particular about having an empty sink. If someone placed a dirty bowl or glass in the sink, he'd happily wash it. He always kept busy tinkering around in the garage or yard. He liked to keep busy and doing the dishes was one of those things.
Both of my Grandparents have passed on now. My Grandpa died in the spring of 1995, just before my daughter was born. I was hoping that he'd make it until her birth in August. But his heart failed him. He did visit her, in my dreams after she was born, however. I truly believe he was with us for the first few months of her life (or it could have been my crazy hormones getting the best of me). I'm sure he still is "here" I just don't notice as much now.
So now, when I tackle the most dreadful chore, I ponder two of the most wonderful Grandparents I could have had.

Blogger needs a "like" button. =) I love the story about your grandpa, I wish I had had the opportunity to get to know my own grandparents when I hear stories like that.

I also relate smells to memories, Jen - cheap hot chocolate mix reminds me of the school I went to in England - there was a drink machine near where we waited for the bus and I was so happy when I had enough $ to buy a hot chocolate! Your post also made me cry thinking about not having my Dad now - he also liked to keep busy and was always doing something - he would have adored Jackson; and I know in my heart that he is with us always too - I rarely dream about him for some reason but when i do, it makes me so happy. Bless you sweetie - didn't mean to take over your blog!

I like your memory of the hot chocolate. It's little things like that, that really make memories.

*hugs* I'm sorry you are missing your dad. I know he's with you watching over your family.
